Hi, I'm Karen Joynson, a British Horse Society registered Stage 4 (BHSII) Senior Coach & Senior Yard Manager and a UKCC Level 3 Coach in Dressage, Show Jumping, and Eventing. I am also a Franklin Ball Specialist Coach, fully insured, DBS-checked, trained in child protection and first aid, and committed to continuous professional development.
With 44 years of experience, I have trained riders at all levels, from beginners to advanced competitors. My coaching is designed to be fun and informative, using easy-to-understand techniques to help you and your horse progress.
I specialise in:
✔ Training young horses
✔ Building confidence in both horse and rider
✔ Developing a clear and structured training system to create a successful partnership
✔ Helping competition riders improve their dressage marks and jumping accuracy
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills for competition, I can provide tailored training to help you achieve your goals.
I offer freelance coaching for private individuals, groups, riding clubs, and pony clubs. I also work with local riding schools and provide Franklin Ball training sessions.
Location: I am happy to travel to any yard within 30 miles of South Gloucestershire and can cover the wider South West for larger clinics.
Throughout the year, I run a variety of clinics designed to help riders improve their skills in a supportive group environment.
Do you struggle with:
🔹 Tipping forward when riding?
🔹 Keeping your lower leg effective and heels down?
🔹 Getting your horse to work on the bit or improve engagement?
🔹 Lack of confidence or tension in the saddle?
The Franklin Ball system could be the transformation your riding needs!
By sitting correctly, your body softens, allowing your horse to move more freely. Many riders unknowingly block their horse’s movement, leading to stiffness or tension. The Franklin Ball method provides instant sensory feedback, helping you correct your position without needing constant verbal reminders.
How it works: By placing Franklin Balls under different areas of the body (e.g. under the seat or arms), riders develop muscle memory of the correct position. Instead of multiple corrections, a simple cue like “think of the peanut” helps the rider instantly adjust.
✔ Encourages a more balanced and open position
✔ Helps riders relax, allowing the horse to move freely
✔ Provides a fun and engaging way to improve posture
Ideal for private lessons, small groups, riding clubs, and pony clubs, this system offers a unique and effective way to refine your riding skills.
If you’re looking for expert coaching or would like to arrange a lesson, please get in touch. I look forward to helping you and your horse achieve your goals!
